Here's the update on our owls and the next steps we are going to help them. Cameras and monitoring are usually for large grant funded projects .... but why not make them small community projects. We have owls here, they are quickly disappearing, many fail without ever being documented, and if... we have a community that cares about its wildlife... I think they would be more likely to care about their neighbors too. We will give more updates as things go on..... it's also getting into busy baby season. Please find a rescue on our map and volunteer for a group close to you.... or one that suites your interest. I personally always recommend Wild At Heart since they do the most burrowing owl conservation work. They have installed over 5,000 supplemental habitats, trap and tag all their burrowing owl relocations (instead of just flushing or hard releasing), and acclimate them to new areas by way of soft release tenting. ♥️🦉♥️ #wildlifeconservation #urbansprawl #volunteer #burrowingowl

Welcome to wildlife conservation. You can have a whole community of people watching over the owls... and it takes just one butthole to destroy it. This is one of the last remaining burrowing owl families here in Casa Grande. You think people wouldn't purposely destroy one of their burrows.... ...but it's kind of hard to believe it was an accident as well. We have a reporting page on our website. We have pictures of how to mark the boroughs and we have contacts to Game And Fish, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Wild At Heart that can all assist when burrows are in danger. Marking healthy burrows is as important as documenting destroyed ones. Please checkout our bio for more info. #burrowingowl #wildlifeconservation #volunteer #communityadvocacy

We have a love hate relationship with palm trees. On one hand they are biodiversity magnets that can really help the ecology in a small space. On the other hand they can turn into fire hazards when planted near homes and utility poles.
Many landscapers say these trees only harbor rats and ...cockroaches... but if so that says more about your community than your tree. Urban sprawl creates rats and cockroaches. Over pruning, pruning during nesting season, and planting nonnative plants creates pest issues.
However, protecting nesting spaces and watching over wildlife is the only thing that is going to help us so please be nice to the trees.... they are the host for all the baby birds, bats, and critters we need to control all the pests and if you have been waiting 10 years to prune it you can wait one more season to not hurt the babies in them now.
We have self reporting tools on our website to report active and damaged nesting sites so we can watch over them and report destruction to officials when needed. We also have pamphlets on the website that you can share with your HOA or City Code Officers. Or construction workers doing land clearing that may want a copy for their office to we can update them on the laws. Native Birds are State and Federally protected, and the destruction of their nests is a punishable crime. #wildlifeconservation #raptornest #palmtreelove

A reminder that native bird nests are federally protected. If you are being told you will be fined for not pruning it by an HOA or City Code Enforcement officer we have the documentation you can share with them to protect the nest and reporting tools available so we can easily share violations with... state and federal authorities

A huge thank you to our friend Hazzard from Dinasour Quill Studio that did the artwork for the print. It is species specific to some of the wildlife that use palm skirts for nesting. ♥️🦉♥️
